A Social Change Project
Social Change Project
Gender Identity: "My Pronouns"
The fight for rights and recognition for the LGBTQ+ has come a long way. Today, the world is more open to change. You can see being Gay as part of the mainstream, especially in media. Slowly but surely, members of the LGBTQ+ are starting to be accepted on a global scale. Still, some places lack awareness on the more obscure side of the spectrum. For example, the use of unique pronouns for different Gender Identities. The main goal of this project is to spread awareness and knowledge about Gender Identity.
THE YOUTH
The youth today are the main targets of our advocacy. They are the key to changing the future. As impressionable youths, they are more open to change and new knowledge. As of now, it is through the influence of the younger generation that we can spread the voice about Gender Identity.
In our current society with rapidly improving technology, social media is the best way to pass the message. 'We HEAR you, we SPEAK for you, and You MATTER'. Many teenagers or young adolescents often find themselves confused or lost about who they are. In some parts of the world, people are even unaware that this kind of community exists. Because of that, many suffer from abuse, harassment, discrimination, and isolation. And this is why our advocacy matters the most to the youth.
We have to be the ones to start the change, us as part of the youth. We need to reach out to others and show them that they, too, belong. That there is a place for them in this world. In addition, this project is not limited to the youth, but also to the parents.
Our parents are our pillars of support. Although, some may shame us for our Identity there will always be those who accept and embrace us. We must show our resolve and help them understand us better by sharing our knowledge with them.
WHAT WE CAN DO
"We EXIST, We MATTER"
We must extend our reach as far as possible, and that is why we'll use social media such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to spread the word. This project will hold a one-month online campaign entitled "My Identity, My Pronouns", with a series of online seminars dedicated to educating the masses about Gender Identity. Alongside it are some online activities to entice the Youth into joining. There will be one seminar per week and at the end of it an open forum to ask all the questions you may have. On the last week of the month, we will hold our very own pride parade.
We may face many adversaries. Whether it may be technical difficulties or hacking and hate crimes against us- what matters most is the effort we put into this project. So long as the word is spread, then the first step has already been taken. The only thing left is for others to share the path. What YOU can do to support the cause is by spreading the word. Share this blog, and share the word for this project. For areas without internet access, have no fear. This project is in collaboration with the local radio, namely 92.5 Home Radio. In this way, a weekly talk show plus Q&A can be done. In addition to that, the seminars are recorded and uploaded in our blog, and is free to download. Please donate through Ko-Fi if you can!
